Fabulous museum. Been quite a few times and really enjoyed it. Great to see the rooms used for Gentleman Jack, really brings the series to life. Beautiful house and lots to see. Large grounds and adjacent park. Well worth a visit

Shibden Hall is a historic house museum. Built in the 15th century, it is one of the most important surviving examples of Tudor architecture in the region. Shibden Hall is famous not only for its unique half-timbered design but also as the home of Anne Lister, a notable 19th-century landowner, diarist, and LGBTQ+ figure often referred to as "the first modern lesbian." The Hall is surrounded by beautiful gardens and a large park, and visitors can explore its rooms, which showcase period furnishings, woodwork, and decorative arts from various historical periods. The museum highlights Anne Lister’s life, her coded diaries, and her significant contributions to industry and society. Shibden Hall gained additional popularity after the BBC/HBO series Gentleman Jack, which dramatized Anne Lister’s life and brought international attention to her story. The site often hosts tours, events, and exhibitions.

Great place to visit with lots to learn. The video near the entrance gives really useful context to a visit. I learned a lot about Ann Lister - an amazing person. Volunteer guides were enthusiastic and gave good context as well.

Well maintained hall and gardens. The place has benefitted from the recent publicity following the Gentleman Jack television drama that told the story of Anne Lister. It’s well worth a visit whether you’ve watched the show or not. Just one point, don’t rely on having lunch here, the cafe is very basic and only good for a coffee / cake. Lovely pleasant staff and volunteers on site. Parking is plentiful and free. There’s also disabled parking right next to the hall. There are also free to use, clean toilets next to the disabled parking area.

The house was fascinating. Lot's of information boards about the history. Wonderful old wood panelled rooms. The out buildings and old carriage collection were the icing on the cake. Recommended.

A smaller, 2 deck ship, which gave you a feel for sailing in those days.
